EDIT: Uptick in native Unicode webpages! (via Daring Fireball) Good. I look forward to the deprecation and eventual destruction of all those obnoxiously indistinguishable-yet-incompatible Western European charsets. It shall be our war chant: UTF-8! UTF-8! UTF-8!

(Explication: If you've ever opened a document only to find all the quote marks replaced by Ò's for no good reason, you have a dog in this fight.)

I suppose you keep up with these things and probably already know, but I guess Krupp is leaving the high school and Mr. Bergh is collecting letters from former students for him.

I don't understand that page at all, and it's one of those things where my eyes want to stop reading before my brain does, but I have seen the angry eyes (Ò) on other pages. A lot of online classes have teachers who do something weird because every time I have to look at a syllabus or print out notes I see that.

But You know what I really wish someone could look into? A way for me to be able to hit Crtl F on a real book (like the anthropology one in front of me) so I could find all the vocab words that aren't listed in the back sometime before midnight. That would be really great.

Charset mismatch exacerbated by uninformed use of Fancy Quotemarks. It sneaks in when you round-trip documents between Macintosh MS Word, Windows MS Word, the Web, and back again. And it wouldn't be a problem if people would just write all their programs to use UTF-8.

I've had a hate-on for the Òs for like 8 years. Users shouldn't have to be experts just to see other people's stupid quotemarks.
